Overview - ERIC Emergency Messaging System

ERIC (Emergent Reply Imminent Crisis) is a safety app that monitors users through time-based check-in events. When users fail to acknowledge these safety events, ERIC automatically sends SMS notifications to their designated emergency contacts.

Important: ERIC sends ONLY emergency and transactional messages. No promotional, marketing, or advertising SMS messages are ever sent.

Message Types:

  • Emergency Alerts: Sent to emergency contacts when a user misses a safety check-in
  • System Notifications: Account verification, security alerts to app users
  • Confirmation Messages: Opt-in confirmations and opt-out acknowledgments

Emergency Contact SMS Opt-In Workflow

This section documents how emergency contacts provide express written consent to receive SMS messages from ERIC.

Step 1: User Initiates Emergency Contact Addition

When a ERIC app user wants to add someone as an emergency contact:

  • User opens ERIC app and navigates to "Emergency Contacts"
  • User enters contact's name, relationship, and email address
  • User clicks "Send Invitation" to invite the emergency contact

Step 2: Emergency Contact Receives Invitation

The potential emergency contact receives an email invitation containing:

Subject: [User Name] has invited you to be their emergency contact in ERIC

Message:
Hi [Contact Name],

[User Name] has added you as an emergency contact in their ERIC safety app. ERIC monitors [User Name]'s daily safety through check-in events. If they miss a check-in, you'll receive an SMS message with their location so you can help ensure their safety.

Step 3: Consent Collection Page

When the emergency contact clicks the invitation link, they're directed to a dedicated consent page featuring:

Step 4: Phone Number Verification

After providing consent, the emergency contact immediately receives an SMS verification:

Step 5: Emergency Contact Activation

Once the emergency contact verifies their phone number:

  • Their SMS consent is recorded with timestamp
  • They're activated in the ERIC system
  • They receive a final confirmation message
  • The primary user is notified their emergency contact is active

Emergency Alert Example:
ERIC ALERT: Jane Smith missed her 6:00 PM safety check-in. Last location: 123 Main St, Reading PA. Time: 6:15 PM. Please check on her. Reply STOP to opt out.
System Notification Example:
ERIC: Your account password was changed. If this wasn't you, contact support immediately at support@getericapp.com. Reply STOP to opt out.
Opt-Out Confirmation Example:
ERIC: You've been removed from emergency alerts for Jane Smith. You will no longer receive SMS messages from ERIC. Contact support@getericapp.com to reactivate.

Opt-Out Process

All SMS recipients can opt out using these methods:

  • Reply "STOP" to any SMS message (processed immediately)
  • Standard Keywords: STOP, STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT
  • Email: support@getericapp.com
  • App Settings: Manage preferences within the ERIC app
  • Online: Visit getericapp.com/sms-optout
Note: Emergency contacts who opt out will be immediately removed from the user's safety network and will no longer receive emergency alerts.

Compliance Information

  • TCPA Compliance: All consent is express written consent obtained before sending messages
  • Opt-Out Honored: All opt-out requests processed within 24 hours
  • Consent Records: Maintained with timestamps for regulatory compliance
  • No Marketing: Only transactional and emergency messages sent
  • Sender Identification: All messages clearly identify ERIC/JAERIMY, Inc.
