SMS MESSAGING AND EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS

How We Use SMS Messaging

ERIC uses SMS messaging exclusively for emergency safety purposes. We send text messages in two specific situations:

  1. Emergency Alerts: When a user fails to acknowledge a safety check-in event, ERIC automatically sends SMS notifications with GPS location data to their designated emergency contacts
  2. System Notifications: Essential app functionality messages (account verification, security alerts)
Important: ERIC does NOT send promotional, marketing, or advertising messages via SMS.

Emergency Contact SMS Consent Process

For Emergency Contacts Receiving Notifications:

When a ERIC app user adds someone as an emergency contact, that person must provide explicit consent to receive emergency SMS notifications through the following process:

  1. Invitation: The emergency contact receives an email or text invitation to join the user's safety network
  2. Express Consent: Before being activated as an emergency contact, they must:
    • Review the Emergency Contact Agreement
    • Check a box confirming: "I consent to receive emergency SMS text messages from ERIC (JAERIMY, Inc.) when [User Name] needs assistance"
    • Provide their mobile phone number specifically for emergency notifications
    • Confirm understanding that they may receive location data during emergencies
  3. Confirmation: Emergency contacts receive a confirmation SMS

For Primary App Users:

When setting up the ERIC app, users provide consent for system-related SMS messages by:

  • Agreeing to receive SMS verification codes for account security
  • Confirming their mobile number during app registration
  • Acknowledging they understand ERIC may send critical system notifications via SMS

SMS Message Content and Frequency

Emergency Alert Messages May Include:

  • User's name and safety concern
  • GPS location coordinates
  • Timestamp of missed check-in
  • Instructions for emergency contacts
Example Emergency Message:
"ERIC ALERT: Jane Smith missed her 6 PM safety check-in. Last known location: [GPS coordinates]. Time: 6:15 PM. Please check on her. Reply STOP to opt out."

Message Frequency:

  • Emergency contacts: Only when legitimate safety concerns occur
  • Primary users: Only for critical account security notifications
  • No promotional or marketing messages ever

SMS Data and Privacy Protection

  • All SMS communications are sent through secure, encrypted channels
